Entertainment
Long confirmed as one of the most popular events on the Montreal Highland Games & Festival circuit for spectators and competitors alike, The Games & Festival has once again engaged top notch performers to entertain you throughout the day and evening.
Be sure to get a spot in the beer tent after the closing ceremonies for a genuine jam session with the winning pipe bands and the always popular drum fanfare. Things really get rocking at this time.
Piping & Drumming
This year the Montreal Highland Games will, once again, be presenting pipe band competitions. We will be accepting applications from bands in grades 5, 4, 3 and 2. Competitions will be run under the auspices of ‘The Quebec Pipers’ & Drummers’ Society’.
We will also be presenting the band competitions in a concert format. Rather than the usual circle-on-the-grass formation, bands will play on a three level, professional quality, mobile stage. Bands will be free to arrange themselves as they see fit. Large bands will most likely use all three levels while smaller groups may only use one or two. We believe this format will allow spectators a better view of bands and project the sound better.
Please note that the minimum player requirements are slightly different than in some other jurisdictions.
The Games committee is expecting 30 to 40 bands to participate; the average number of participants over the past couple of decades.
Grade 5 bands will compete in the morning. The exact start time for the morning competitions will be determined once the entry deadline has passed and the precise number of competitors is established. All bands will be given an approximate time slot for their competition.
Bands can enter on-line or by mail’. (On-line registrations are preferred.) Click here to access the entry forms and rules.

Athletics
The athletic events at The Montreal Highland Games feature only the very best Scottish athletes. All the participants you will see perform at the Games have been invited based on their track record. Each athlete will compete in seven traditional Highland events:
- Putting the Stone (like a shot putt using a stone in place of the steel ball)
- Light Hammer throw
- Heavy Hammer throw
- Sheaf toss
- 28 pound weight thrown for distance
- 56 pound weight thrown for height
- Caber toss
The athletic events get under way around 10:30am. They will take a short break for the official opening ceremonies at 12:30pm and resume when the massed bands have left the field (around 1:30pm).
For additional information please contact our athletics director, Ed Lenard. Please keep in mind that entry to these events is by invitation only.
